Resentment

Too Little Forgiveness

What is Resentment?

Resentment represents a deficiency of forgiveness. It manifests as holding grudges, inability to let go of past wrongs, and bitterness. This unbalanced state poisons relationships and prevents healing.

Signs of Resentment

  • Bringing up past wrongs repeatedly
  • Unable to move forward after being hurt
  • Bitter and angry toward those who wronged you
  • Plotting revenge or seeking to hurt others back
  • Unable to trust or be close to others

Consequences of Resentment

  • Relationships permanently damaged or ended
  • Bitterness that poisons your own heart
  • Inability to experience peace or joy
  • Others avoid you because of your bitterness

Moving Toward Balance

To develop healthy forgiveness:

  • Acknowledge the hurt and your feelings
  • Choose to release the anger for your own sake
  • Forgiveness doesn't require reconciliation
  • Work toward understanding, if possible
  • Focus on healing and moving forward
